Shabad Guru Sewa Society is seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Art Conservator to lead the operations of its heritage conservation studio. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the preservation of sacred Sikh manuscripts and multi-material historical artifacts (e.g., wood, leather, metal, textile), in a spiritually guided environment rooted in Sewa.
NOTE: Candidate must be Baptized (Amritdhari Gursikh only)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Art Conservation
- Minimum of 4 years of professional conservation experience (in a reputable institution or as an independent conservator)
- Proven ability to train, mentor, or supervise junior conservators or interns
- Proficient in procurement and use of conservation-grade tools and materials
- Demonstrated ability to work according to international standards of ethical conservation (e.g., AIC, IIC, ECCO codes)
- Strong manual skills, attention to detail, and documentation practices
- Only Gursikhs / Amritdhari Gursikhs are eligible
- No tobacco or alcohol users
Work Authorization:
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
Personal & Spiritual Requirements:
- Deep reverence for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Sikh Rehat Maryada
- Ability to maintain a calm, clean, and spiritually aligned studio environment
- Commitment to respectful handling of sacred heritage materials and objects
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and perform conservation treatments on manuscripts and sacred historical objects
- Develop and enforce studio protocols, documentation systems, and material safety standards
- Provide training and mentorship to interns and junior staff
- Manage inventory, sourcing, and appropriate storage of conservation materials
- Uphold best practices in both technical treatment and spiritual respect
